In December last year, Skipton was officially given the title of Happiest Place to Live in the UK and we couldn’t agree more. As a family we love Skipton, especially pottering down in to town on a Saturday morning after Park Run.
Skipton is just up the road from our holiday cottages and the town has everything you’d expect from a traditional market town. It was praised for its friendly residents meaning you’re guaranteed a warm Yorkshire welcome.

The town was given a market charter in 1204 and even today it has four market days – Mondays, Wednesdays, Friday and Saturdays. So whether you’re planning to stay at a weekend, or mid-week, you’ll be able to visit the market.
Alongside a fantastic medieval castle, and cobbled streets, Skipton has canal boats offering sightseeing tours and even an ancient woodland to explore that’s hidden behind the High Corn Mill.
So what makes Skipton so perfect for our self-catering guests?
Farm shop – Robertshaws – renowned for its fresh produce including a butchers, bakers, delicatessen, florist and larder stocking lots of local produce. A great place to stock-up on provisions – either en route or during your stay.
Bakeries and Butchers – Walkers Bakery not only serves up freshly baked bread and pastries, it’s a brilliant place to call in for sandwiches made up freshly to order – just right for a picnic. If you’re looking for a quality, award-winning butcher then don’t miss Drake and Macefield on Otley Street – the oldest butchers in Craven.
Cafes and Tearooms – Bean Loved is a favourite – particularly for a tasty brunch and it has plenty of choice whatever your dietary requirements.
Why not embrace the happiness of Skipton yourselves combined with a stay in one of our beautiful cottages?
